OFFICIAL OPENING

On the 26th of September all the champions and our guests from around the world would be arriving. We have prepared a special welcoming, where we are going to meet all of them and create a friendly atmosphere for their stay at the wonderful city of Brussels. Ministries of Brussels have been invited to this event to give their special welcome and inaugurate the first inclusive World Poetry Slam Championship.

SHOWCASE BELGIAN SCENE + open mic

Poetry performances in collaboration with "Slameke". The event will start with performances of poets from the Belgium scene and it will continue with an open mic with poets chosen from our open call.

Slam4climate WORKSHOP

Slam4climate is an innovative project that provides slam writing workshops to students to fight against climate change in high schools, colleges and universities in cities around the world. The workshop will host Baana Enono Arnaud (aka Faithfull), artist poet from Cameroon, national competition slam promoter, cultural entrepreneur, director of international festival SLAMeroun and general secretary of ACSP ( Africa Cup of Slam Poetry).

"NO DUERME" | Theater performance 

A theater performance about  how we treat each other. The theater play consists of 4 monologues of how we behave as comunity. Four artists from Latin America are bringing this amazing play from Argentina to Belgium, Brussels.

DEMO COMPETITION POETRY SLAM

The "Centre culturel de Jette" is organizing a little Poetry Slam demo competition for all of you who have never been in a Poetry Slam event. There will be 2 competitions of 30 minutes each, consisting of 2 rounds each  one. Poets among the champions coming to Brussels from around the world will participate to show you what performative poetry is!

This will be an outdoors activity.

LGBTQI+ (oriented performance)

A show of poetry performances under the theme of diversity and identity, showcasing poets from the LGBTQI+ community. All poets will perform with background music and audiovisuals to make it a special show. Performers: Makis Moulos (Greece), Canuto Roldán (Mexico), Puti Futurista (Uruguay), Marie Darah (Belgium), Anna Moura (Brazil), Andrea Gómez Jiménez (Costa Rica), Dan Goodwin (New Zealand).

SEMI-FINALS 1

In the first semi-finals will participate 20 of the 40 champions invited to the World Poetry Slam Championship. The names of the participants have been announced on the 18th of July, after a live streamed draw on our social media.

The performances will be scored by a special jury from each participating country who will be voting their 10 favorite poets using the scores 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10 and 12. On top of this, there will be online voting for the audience around the world. The audience will have to vote via a voting platform whose access will be given before the event and they will have to vote their favorite 5 poets, giving 1 point to each one, without being able to vote for their own country.

We have selected 2 documentaries to be screen-played. After the end of each documentary, there will be a Q&A session with the directors of each one.

FINALS

In the finals will participate the best 20 poets of both semi-finals. This means that we will take the scores of all 40 poets participated in both of the semi-finals and the 20 poets with the highest scores will pass to the finals. 

The performances will be scored by a special jury from each participating country who will be voting their 10 favorite poets using the scores 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10 and 12. On top of this, there will be an online voting for the audience around the world. The audience will have to vote via a voting platform whose access we will be given before the event and they will have to vote their 5 favorite poets, giving 1 point to each one, without being able to vore for their own country. 

In the finals we will also have a winner of the live audience in the venue. This will be via the traditional system, having 5 random judges from the live audience in the room giving a score from 0 to 10 to each poet.

We are very happy to collect video poetry projects and spoken word video performances to showcase during our festival! Do you want your video to be screenplayed during the World Poetry Slam Championship? Read HERE all the details and submit your video until the 10th of August. A selection of 20 videos from around the world will be made.
